What is a Good Alexa Rank?

Hi,

I'v been wondering, do any of you know a good rank to aim for in Alexa to be considered a "worthy" rank? Obviously top 10 would be amazing, but seriously, what do you think is a realistic ranking to have or at least a rank that indicates your>

i'd say 4 is a good starting place to aim for

Yes your site should be as big and popular as youtube

As for an indication your style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" />
I think it depends style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ) then you'll start tracking at 100,000. That's fairly respectable.

To give it a tiny bit of perspective, I know of a very popular site that was ranking between 30k-40k a few years ago, then MTV bought it and it went up to its current ranking of 9k. It's currently the most visited site of its genre... and it's still style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
Very interesting Expat! Thank you very much for the info.

So as WDF is a year old 157,738 isn't too bad I guess compared to the whole world?? Thanks for the insight, i'll keep an eye style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":good:" border="0" alt="good.gif" />
Anything less than 100,000 is considered to be good style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

Alexa rank is useless. Ratings are style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
I wouldn't say Alexa rankings are "useless" - it's a sample size, and not an altogether bad style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ) it begins to represent a general trend, particularly for the higher ranked sites (i.e. sites that your average Alexa/Internet user visits daily, like Google).

Even Google's algorithms - PageRank, search engine ranking, etc. - are a fairly relative definition of "usefulness" as defined by their own mathematicians. We've all seen Google screw-ups and it is possible to manipulate the results somewhat (e.g. Googlebombing "miserable failure") but for the most part the amount of reliable data coming in will offset the outliers.

IMHO YMMV

I found this interesting tidbit style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
I dont think that would work even theoretically speaking, lol
Looking at Google's Alexa rank, I don't think that there is enough time in the day for you to do that...

1 hour = 3600 seconds, so 24 hours = 86,400 seconds

Even with high speed internet, assuming you could visit three times every second, you could style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> But yeah, beating something like Google would be practically impossible for a smaller site.

You can certainly influence the rankings to a surprising level though. Try it yourself, just install the toolbar and visit your own website a few times a day and watch your Alexa ranking go up.

It's obviously harder to influence the top sites in this way but you'll certainly notice a difference if the site is ranked lower than the 100'000 mark.

Yes, it's maybe not completely useless as something ranked number 100 is obviously going to be receiving a fair amount of traffic but comparing sites within a few thousand positions doesn't represent anything and even comparing a site ranked at 200k with>

i can't understand alexa ranking i have a alexa ranked 78 domain name parked at sedo which should in theory earn me a fortune how come i style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="unsure.gif" />

A quick scan of the Top 500 and I see a lot of established sites in the vicinity of 78 but nothing parked and/or new.

Did you get your ranking from Alexa.org?
