Shared means you share a webserver with other shared accounts. IE it hosts your websites as well as others.

Reseller you know

VPS means you have the complete server to yourself. IE style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> but I hope it helps explain a bit
Ohhh I see, so it's like having 100's of servers but actually style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":clapping:" border="0" alt="clapping.gif" />
usually with VPS, each server is allocated a minimum and maximum resource, so say between 200mhz and 1500mhz, and between 128mb and 1gb memory...

At a period when no servers have traffic, they will each have 200mhz and 128mb. When one server gets lots of traffic, his resource allocation increases, but others do not neccesarily decrease.

The nub of it is that the sum of every servers resource equals the overall server resources (so 10 sites on a 2GHz server).

The only time you will get slowdown is when 3 or 4 other sites have really high traffic at the same time. This is better than on a shared, were only one site can cause the whole set to slow down.

More advanced VPS systems recognise the high traffic ones and lower there maximum resource so that other sites have somewhere to expand into.
