Hello Warrior MembersI have been checking on ways to make a wordpress website secure.I was told it is better to buy a certificate like SSL for the domain name. Please is there any other way apart from this? You should use some plugin like: Login LockDown, wordpress firewall , and wordpress security . all plugins are free There are a few ways to make your site more secure, yes, starting with making the database more secure during the installation and adding some code here and there. It really depends on what you want your site to be and how much you want to work on it or invest in it. Leslie Well I will suggest you to go for SSL, this is because of the fact that it gives you a high level of security in logins and header exchanges.. One of my client's blog got hacked recently when he used public wifi at the airport and coffee shop to access his Wordpress admin panel. The hacker didn't do any major damage except for posting a silly message on the blog. Such hacking can be prevented using SSL. So I changed his admin password and installed SSL on his blog. Also, you might want to use a virtual keyboard (provided in MS windows) to prevent key logging softwares and malwares from recording your password keystrokes. This is especially important if you are using someone else's computer to access your Wordpress admin panel. Also make sure you don't save your FTP password in the FTP client. Trojans/Malwares can sniff those out too and compromise your website. Similarly stay away from saving your wordpress password locally in your browser. Finally update your wordpress in a timely fashion. Sometimes they fix some security issues which my make your website vulnerable to hackers. However something of that sort hasn't happened in recent times (or at least I haven't heard of it) Implement wordpress hardening techniques - Wordpress Official Information thank you all for the input. it really helped a lotespecially about the virtual keyboard. Just got to know of it Try bullet proof security for wordpress, very powerful either free or paid versions. There are some webhosting companies, can't recall names of the top of my head, but are specifically aimed at keeping your sites secure and are experts in hacker monitoring, etc. great tips in here, also and this is a friendly reminder to use secure and complex passwords Do not use these top 25 hackable passwords ==> 25 of the worst Passwords - Are U Using these? Interesting. What is very good to do is not place the login at /wp-admin and also do not use the username 'admin' Here's an article that I found that covers 11 ways to securea Wordpress site. The article is from 2008 but most of the methodsare still relevant. I hope it helps. 11 Ways To Secure Your WordPress Blog The website if fully secured now. thanks you all You can use SSL for better security. It would be helpful for you.
