How to copy posts, forums, threads, users etc to a new forum?

I'm running a 3.6.8 forum, and due to some errors that nobody has been able to help me fix, I decided to start on a fresh install of 3.8.0

I want to copy across my members, posts, threads, forums, messages, usergroups, all the basic stuff, but ImPex just won't work. So, can anyone provide me with a way to get the data across? I don't mind manually copy pasting database tables, but as I'm not sure which ones are neccessary I'd need some more info.

Otherwise, are there any alternatives to ImpEx?

You wont need ImPex for vB to vB..

Well, Have you exported your old SQL Database? If so, then you just need to import it through your hosting control panel, or use an application like snardley has listed above.

Try updating 3.6.8 to 3.8.x by usual means (upload and overwrite files and run install/upgrade.php) before you start playing with the db manually, but remember to make backups first...

Let me try this.

oldforum is using 3.6.8 (something is wrong here and u wanna repair)
install another forum; you call this (e.g.) newforum. Install this new forum with the same 3.6.8.

!!!! backup the oldforum db 1st - for safety reasons.

Use impex to import users db's from oldforum -->newforum
then, upgrade the newforum from ver 3.6.8 to 3.8.x
