How do you make your own party not awkward?

I'm throwing a surprise dinner party for my friend tomorrow. She's turning 17. We're having dinner at a restaurant, and about 8 people are going, but they don't now each other, meaning they've never met before. We're all girls, if that matters, so how do you make the situations of meeting one another not awkward? What are some things we can talk about or do to avoid dead silences? I'm hosting this event, so it's kind of important. THANKS!!!<br />

you definitely have to have each person coming have a person to hang out with. or else it'll be awkward unless each is super outgoing. just put yourself in each persons position if you were at the party..
