Rangers leave Celtic Park this evening content with a 1-1 draw after an onslaught of pre sure from a hungry Celtic. With only 1 shot on target, Rangers managed to somehow respond from a Scott McDonald opener after 79 minutes when midfielder Lee McCulloch bulleted home a header from a pinpoint corner from Steven Davis. In all honesty, it was all-Celtic as Rangers seemed to lose out on every second ball and every personal battle.The SPL Champions were at the bare-bones today, with Nacho Novo replaced by Maurice Edu early in the first-half with Novo off due to muscular-bleeding which could keep him out of action for a few months. Kyle Lafferty was the man to partner Kris Boyd in Darius Anderson Jersey attack, Steven Whittaker was chosen as the right-midfielder and Danny Wilson started in place of Algerian defender Madjid Bougherra. Tony Mowbrays Celtic went for the more powerful, dynamic approach in attack with Marco-Antoine Fortune partnering Georgios Samaras.Celtic M.J. Kyle Lafferty was a very lucky boy a few minutes later when his ridiculous and dangerous challenge on Andreas Hinkel with the Northern Irish international only picking up a booking when a red card seemed more deserved.Barry Robson was next to test the Rangers defence and he had two good oppertunities to give Celtic the lead, firstly, a cro s was played towards Robson and his volley went miles over the top. His second chance was a bit closer when his header cannoned back against the cro sbar from another superb Andreas Hinkel cro s. Towards the end of the first-half, Rangers seemed to crack but Georgios Samaras mi sed a guilt-edge chance when he was one-on-one with McGregor and he slid the ball past the far post.In the second- Jaelen Strong Jersey half, Aiden McGeady was next to have his chances when he mi sed on two occasions also. On a Celtic counter-attack, McGeady was slipped in on goal but due to good defending from Maurice Edu, the tricky winger dragged his shot wide of the post. His second chance was thanks to a slipped pa s from Fortune which sent McGeady into the box and he skied the ball into the stand. Tony Mowbray took action mid-way through the second half when he threw on Scott McDonald to join Fortune and Samaras in attack.The substitution got its just rewards after 79 minutes when Aiden McGeady turned and twisted away from Sasa Papac and Steven Whittaker to supply a delicatley-chipped cro s which found its way into the path of Scott McDonald, and from two yards out he glanced the ball past the helple s McGregor for a deserved opener. With the wife of Rod Stewart enjoying the moment with her video camera, the moment was short-lived for her when Rangers immediatley powered up the pitch and won a Maliek Collins Jersey corner. Taken by Steven Davis, his cro s was exactly where Lee McCulloch wanted it and the midfielder bulleted his header into the bottom corner with the Rangers supporters erupting in the corner of the stadium.The action continued and at the other end of the pitch, Georgios Samaras produced a world cla s save from in-form Allan McGregor when Samaras collected the ball in a tight angle before cutting inside a shot destined for the top corner before McGregor got a full-hand on the shot to superbly divert the ball over the top. Rangers battled away and held on at the end for what was very tough point to gain at Celtic Park, the draw keeps Rangers in pole position at the top of the SPL with Houston Texans Pet Gear Celtic having a game in hand which if they win, the gap would be closed to 4 points.
