I have limited but improving web design skills and I want to create and upload several websites for my wife's business, to help generate sales leads for her.

I have already purchased the domain names and will be using either FrontPage or Dreamweaver to create the sites ... how do I go about uploading the sites and can anyone offer any advice on multi-domain hosting?
I am particularly interested to know of multiple domain hosting based in Australia ... unless it really doesn't matter if it's in the same country as I am!

I actually bought my domains through GoDaddy.com (an American site).
I use a reseller account to do this.with "total choice hosting" based in the US

http//www.totalchoicehosting.com/

the going rate is about $20 per month. You can host as many sites as you want (subject to space restrictions)

the next level up is virtual hosting which is at least double the cost

with a reseller account you will have control over dns settings via a front end called WHM (the hosting version of C-panel). This means that you can point domains at other domains or park them on top of each other as well as just keeping them seperate.

to save money opt for a linux server- most of the web runs on linux apatche servers.

Total choice hosting have a good support forum if you need help or want to ask before opening an account.

Use deamweaver not frontpage- its crap

Once you enter the ftp settings in dreamweaver you will be able to publish pages to your site. Alternatively use "ace ftp" to upload your pages

A dedicated server will be in excess of $100 pm

The must have books are on css and in your case dreamweaver.

If you are interested in an ecommerce site then checkout the free zencart,

for a forum try simple machines forums

below is an example that i had up and running in a couple of days

http//www.bichonhotel.co.uk

there are links to the zencart shop and the newish simplemachines forum on the home page- they are not yet finished but will give you an indicator of what can be done for free

If you are willing to sacrifice control over layout you could go for a content management system such as joomla

the example below took me half a day and again was free

http//www.theblackbullpub.co.uk

A little understanding of mysql might be useful here.

other than the above there are lots of free template, some flash based

eg

http//www.rsargeant.co.uk was a free flash template, but you would need adobe flash to edit them

good luck.

just get something out there and them improve them as your skills increase

to promote your site consider the google or yahoo cost per click ads and look into ezines. The more links to your site from popular sites the better your own search engine rankings. Also think carefully about "meta tages"

Hi

A good hosting company will offer a reseller account, so you can add as many domains and websites as you want for an annual fee. You can then be a virtual host and offer this as a service for your customers.
