I've just spent the last 30 minutes trying to find a decent free hosting account and it's next to impossible! I went through the free hosting advertising forums and clicked pretty much all the hosting companies and found that they either...
Are no longer online
Only let you have sub-domains like me.abc.com
Don't allow people to sign up from India
Make you post in the forums to get a free account
I'm getting pretty frustrated so if anyone can recommend some good free hosts that would let me install a wordpress blog please do let me know!

It all depends on the company some rewuire yoyu to post to host, others give you space for free and there are others who just want to have a small link or logo on your site. Look in the advertising section of this website to see the offers people have.
