VB Install Problems

Hi guys, this is the first time I have installed any vBulletin software before, but have now got to the point that I have no idea.

I have uploaded the files to the public_html folder on the server. I am now on step 2 of the installation, but this is where the problem is. I am getting the eror on step 2 -

Step 2) Connect to the database
Attempting to attach to database
Error description: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'termy_admin'@'localhost' (using password: YES) /home/mobyfixc/public_html/includes/class_core.php on line 311
[SIZE=+1]The database has failed to connect because you do not have permission to connect to the server. Please confirm the values entered in the 'includes/config.php' file.[/SIZE]

I am trying to install vb 3.8.0 BETA4 if this helps.

What do I need to do to solve this error.

Many thanks for any help... Termy.

Hi, I have solved the above error, but getting this one now, lol.

Attempting to attach to database
Connect failed: unexpected error from the database.
Error number: 1044
Error description: Cannot use database termy_forum
Please ensure that the database and server is correctly configured and try again.

Sorry, I am clueless when doing this sort of thing.

Many thanks... Termy.

are all files chmod and I will say installing vb for the first time would not have used a beta version.

Sorry m8, I wasnt aware that any of the files needed chmoding as it doesnt say this in the readme, lol.

I already have a vb 3.7.2 forum running, but someone else installed it for me.

Which version of vb would you recomend then m8 ??

Many thanks... Termy.

I am slowly going off the idea of doing all this now, so may just look for proffesional help from somewhere, lol.

Many thanks though m8.

It sounds as if you may not have the config.php file configured properly. The File should be named config.php rather than config.php.new. Make sure your config file looks like the following in the grey shaded areas, but with your own database and user information. Of course your own database and user name may be different than your password unlike the example given.

Also. If you installed a new version of the vBull software, did you run the upgrade script?
yoursite.com/forum/install/upgrade.php

If this doesn't work, I'll help you install your forum if you wish. No charge.

Thanks for that info m8. I have now deleted the vb 3.8 BETA 4 from the server and uploading the vb 3.7.4.

However, I did rename the config.php file, but did not edit this.

I will take a look on the new config.php fule and get back to you m8.

Mych appreciated... Termy.

Ok, I am still struggling with all this, lol. I have uploaded the vb 3.7.4 software to a new folder named "forum" on my server.

However I really do not understand all this config.php stuff. I have no idea what to do and what iformation I need to put in this config.php file.

All help is really appreciated.

Many thanks... Termy.

Hi guys, I am afraid I am not too clever with this stuff, so please exscuse my stupid questions, lol.

I am now stuck on this part -

Code:
// ****** MASTER DATABASE USERNAME & PASSWORD ******
// This is the username and password you use to access MySQL.
// These must be obtained through your webhost.
$config['MasterServer']['username'] = '[color=red]put usr name here'[/color];
$config['MasterServer']['password'] = '[color=red]password here'[/color];

Are these the isername and pass for me (the Admin) or others, and if so which do I need to use ?

Many thanks to everyone so far for bearing with me.

After you create your MySQL database, you have to assign a username with a password for the database. This user name is NOT you - vBulletin is the user of the database. When you assign this database user, be sure to give it full permissions. Database, user, password and assigning of permissions is usually done through cPanel. After you create the database user and password and assign the permissions, put the username and password in config.php in the MasterServer area.
