Managed Hosting?

What is managed hosting? Can someone give me an explanation?:confused:Hi,

The term applies mainly for dedicated server or VPS environments where your (hosting) provider takes care of every technical aspect of your solution. It's important to read what is included, as some providers will only perform some basic things for you and some of them will provide a full service, where you don't even need to have root/administrator access to your server or VPS.

That's more or less the thing... perhaps someone else would be able to add more definitions. :)A managed provider will usually have their own definition of a managed service....look for a page detailing this on their website.Managed hosting usually includes the active management of your hardware and operating environment (Linux, Windows, FreeBSD, etc). Managed hosts will often help you implement your website, applications and code into that environment as well. Once you're up and running, managed hosts monitor your environment, fix any problems that arise, install patches and perform basic server administration.Depending on the host, you may also get support for any software stack that is provided with the environment. If a web host offers a fully managed and monitored service, does anyone think there is a need for remote reboots? Could this be a sign of it not being a fully managed setup?I don't think this would necessarily be an indication that it wasn't fully managed. Remote reboots are usually implemented so that users can reboot their environments quickly if needed. ie: in case you don't want to go through the process of contacting your host and possibly waiting for them to reboot it. If anything, remote reboots add value to the service.
