I have a hp pavilion dv2000, and am creating a website. I am running on XP home edition OS. I want to host my website on the internet, thus make my laptop work as web server. What do i need to do for that?? In order to do PHP scripting on my HTML file, i also need to have a web server. Can anyone please tell me how to go about it. And is it safe to make ur own computer a web server?<br />

Thanks for your help in advance<br />

Do you really intend to pass such an expensive and complicated process? You should know your site would be unavailable whenever your PC is turned off, and you're leaving yourself open to attacks. So I recommend get a reliable company to do that in return for a few dollars.
Take a look at http//bluehost-service.atspace.com . I?m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them. Their service is really great and easy to use.

Its always better to get a commercial web hosting service. Since hosting your own website means running your computer 24/7 and doing lots of maintenance and programming. I am using bluehost webhosting for my website

Using your laptop as a web server is a very bad idea. For one, anytime you turn it off your website will be offline. Secondly, your connection will not be nearly good enough to allow for visitors to have quick access to your site. Thirdly, your processor will not be nearly good enough to handle much of a load of all. Fourthly, your RAM will not be nearly big enough to handle much of a load either. And last of all, it's a laptop, not a web server, it simply isn't meant to host websites )

For everything already mentioned at a High Quality Web Host, I would suggest you try http//www.hostamina.com - They will provide you with everything you need, all the support you need, help with absolutely anything you need, and tons of easy free script installations including shopping carts, blogs, content management systems, and much more.

Don't use your laptop as a web server, for the sake of all your frustrated visitors to be ;)
