Avatar problem

So i am having this problem with an avatar on my forums. It's a .gif image with translucent spots. On one forum version 3.7.3 it works fine however on another forum version 3.6.9 the translucent part is white, not he color of the background. Here are some images to elaborate.

Anyone have any clues as to how to fix this?

Are you switching browser versions? IE 6 dosent support transparencey and .png files are best used for images that are set to a transparent background.

they are both in the same browser (Firefox 3) hmm, maybe i will change it to .png, still curious if there is a specific reason.

If it is .png will everyone still see it? (noob question)

lol not if its .png also there might be mime type issuses with the older version of vbulletin .png is in my opinion the best format for web sites its got the same color range as jpg and the lossless ability as gif and supports full or partial transparency
