Ummm, if you are hosting a Hosting Company, then you need WHMCS ... And if you WILL get WHMCS, then the Server status, is already built-in feature )) Meaning, that all "clients" will be able to check status of a server 
But it does cost some money, unless you wanna use a nulled one... O well, sorry i dont know deep PHP, but WHMCS would be a better idea, because if you code your own, the things like bugs/exploits may be found in your code, and WHMCS is a hard thing to hack than your code
