Overall thoughts

So, yeah, to sum things up, that's what I was thinking we should do quite soon:


  1. / Due to be done this weekend / Upgrade vBulletin to the newest 3.7; I'm not very convinced with the user profile page, I personally hate it, but other functions are good, so we should do the upgrade;

  2. Get some nice two themes, preferrably one dark and the other light; both need to be mostly based on xHTML/CSS instead of heavy graphics;

  3. / Will do it during the upgrade, I will create the group (contributers or helpers or whatever), and we'll choose users later / Create a new group called 'Helpers', with access to ELiTE section;promote only most active users, that are very confident with vBulletin and are happy to help others;

  4. Remove all users with 0 posts, but announce that one week before doing so (will do it after the upgrade, probably next week after upgrade);


    [*]/ DONE:- Staff IRC & Official User IRC / Oh, and we should finally get some secure IRC channel for staff at least, to keep everyone up to date;


    [*]EDIT: + I was thinking, this blog fashion thing, maybe we could create something like this under blog.vbteam.info, where we'd write posts answering the most asked questions, updates, vBulletin releases, our own thoughts, etc etc. - of course it's up to the most active staff here - I can write something from time to time also ;)

Agree with all above but not sure about the blog thing, maybe add an articles mod where members could write tutorials and we could add the FAQ's

I still think we should think about going private invite only but thats just me I know your thoughts on that subject..:)

theres 2 versions 800px and 99% plain not image heavy still needs custom buttons and statusicons

I agree with you on all of it.

I think 3.7 would be a good idea. That way we are up to date and can use a few extra vB options.

I think a new look is a good idea...less graphics is a plus to increase load times etc.

Creating a new usergroup is a good idea, maybe call it "contributers" or something like that, I'll have to look in a thesaurus, Helpers sounds weird to me lol.

Get rid of the 0 posters - agreed, IRC would be cool, especially when site is slow or down.

Would it be better to use something like GARS or the blogs for posting tutorials and things?

And Rules, we need an extensive list of rules and enforce them like they do on Grinderz.

I like that style, I think we need to play with the colors and logo a little bit, but it looks smooth.

I think if we went invite only it would really slow this site down and others would soon pop up trying to take our place. Eventually we would slow to a halt.

The blog thing was just a thought -.- ;)

About the theme; I like the idea, but all this could be done using CSS; We don't need an image to "Go to post" or "Collapse category". + Left top corner seems empty, I'd put something there.

The idea of doing most of the theme isn't only because I want the site to load faster, it's also better for SEO and, in my opinion, looks much better than image-styles, if we put enough effort into it.

e.g. check my old style Hoxxy: Just change colours, add some gradients, make better buttons and polish it here and there...

Anyway, if someone needs some help with CSS/xHTML/PHP, my ICQ is 404590023, and I'm happy to help ;)

I agree.

GARS or something like that is kind of shit in my opinion. I think that opening a general-like blog for vbulletin would be better. Users wouldn't have to register, and it would be better for seo. It's also muuuch faster ;)

I dont have access to it but thats the look I was going for with the style above, If you can post the xml here I will update it to 3.7.3 and then play around and see what I can do...

Lets have some Multiuser Blog script installed then. There are some available for free like Wordpress-MU and there are some paid alternatives too. I got few of Paid I believe but will have to look ;)

Why multi-user? I was thinking more like one blog, that would be written by vBTEAM staff ;)

Edit: It will be difficult to handle if someone asks you a question on ur blog.

Just under 2 hours not bad.....lol :)

I moved the ads to the ads templates and set % for the forumhome cells so looks better(imo)

Nice one, but nobody likes this (my) style, so I'd make a completely new one. I just shown this one to give you idea that we don't need any images ;)

Article i remember there used to be some script vbteam used for articles cant remember

Yeah IRC would be good and add to site use EzIRC for usage? and we can help them without them pming everyone and adding us on msn,jabber etc

About GARS and articles, I meant to start a blog, not article system. Articles != Blog posts. I think we don't need more load caused from plugins in vBulletin.

IRC for staff and another channel for users = yes. No for web scripts for IRC.

I don't like the blog idea (we don't need it), announcements will do it. The first step is to upgrade to the last 3.7 and set up a new skin (light and smooth one). Just do it :)
I don't think it's time for making vBteam an invite-based community (just delete the 0 posters)
