Im reading all sorts of crap on the net about nulled vb.

-security holes
-website shut down
-getting sued

As we all know alot of jealous mofos reports nulled sites. So what happens next if I get caught?

Anyone got negative inputs on this?

I really wanna use this , but I got a nice lawers letter once for distributing intellectual property (not related to vb). And im kinda scared to get that letter again.....

IF you got caught they would simply ask you to take your forum down. If you do not comply, they can THEN execute legal processes which keep in mind, cost more then them just letting you run a nulled VB.

I've been running nulled vB for several years now, still havn't recieved a letter from Jelsoft Ltd. "Jealous mofos" can't report my site, mwahahhaaha! All you need to do is not to advertise your site everywhere, there are too many snitches (reporters) everywhere, there probably is someone on vBTEAM who reports sites too. Watch out, don't get caught.

That's true that it would cost them a lot to take you to court. However, in most cases, the one that loses pays all attorney's fees for both sides and court fees as well as any fines/jail time for the offense. All I know is I wouldn't want to be the one they make an example out of.

This is 100% correct. Here is the main issue. For everyone 1 Vbulletin board they shut down, 15 more pop up. This means they need to assign a sort of "task force". This "task force" needs to be paid in order to do their job.

1 person making minimum wage (Let's just say $5 for ease sake) working fourty hours a week to combat piracy can contact a users web host & do everything they need in lets say 8 hours.

That's 15 sites per hour that pops up. They can never keep up & their team would need to grow.

5 X 8 = 40 = $160 a month. That's 4 Vbulletin boards they can shut down in a month for 1 taks force member.

It's simply not worth it as those who HAVE the money will purchase Vbulletin. They wont GAIN more members by shutting them down. Instead they gain exposure...

if your scared then just pay for one 160.00 then 40 dollars a year after that to keep it updated....how simple is that.....most people can save the 160.00 in just three months if they stopped smoking as much , purchasing junk food, going out on the town and drinking etc.....hell even a young adult could make enough money cutting lawns or doing yard work....

Nah I want to use it as a clan site (not that much traffic) and 160$ is kinda steep for that. Nonetheless I will buy it for the bigger project im building , will have more traffic (well i hope).

Thanks guys.

Yeah, I have gotten caught once...
My site at the time was linkfire.org, and the traffic went from nearly nothing to 80k alexa rating in no time at all...I thought I was doing great, then they sent me an email stating that they searched there records for any purchase of vbulletin from me or my site, and they couldn't find any...and that I had 3 days to take the site down before they would take legal action.

That was the only time I ever got caught.

Do you have the option to buy it , before they do (take action) and dont loose all the traffic?

Just back it up & move to an offshore host. They give you 3 days LOL. They normally WONT directly message you which is why I think the guy above is full of BS. Almost everyone uses fake contact information. They normally contact your host.

Don't stress about it mate. Their is a lot of work arounds.

99% of this information is correct but missing one small ingrediant.

If you have your domain osted you can block ALOT of the things through your .htaccess file. Without giving direct information you can block countries or other ISPs from seeing your domain.

If you know the 'questionable' people that might want to 'shut you down' simply add them to the: "Deny from" section of the .htaccess file. this really works believe me. Also if this is a site for just a small people keep google from crawling it or yahoo within the same file.

Offshore may not be a good answer either. I think maybe you have to be very selective about which offshore you choose as well.

I got this in an email from vBulletin support site just this morning:

We have been useing a nulled version of vbulletin since we opened the site but the where our site is hosted is being told they
have to remove us or there will be legal problems for them, they in turn have told us to get a vb licence or we will be removed
(even tho this is offshore hosting!)

I have been runing various sites for years and have NEVER had to ask what I am about to ask. I am faced with a choice, I either
buy a licence or close the site. I dont really want to close the site as I know it has helped so many of you in the past and will
continue to help people in the future, so with this is mind I am asking for donations from anyone who has used and found the site
to be usefull to them. The donation does not have to be a big one as I am not asking for hundreds of dollars to cover server costs,
all we need is enough to cover the cost of a vb licence.

I withheld the name of the site for obvious reasons.

I think the idea is a good one on its face but I also think that it gets unmanageable very quickly trying to keep up with all the pukes that would turn you in just because they are axxholes. Every now and then for no apparent reason one or two of them go on a tirade about nulled vB sites like they are on a "mission", no idea why! Also, the license nazis know about proxies too!

watever you do.. do not spam your forum on other sites.. if you are using nulled.

if anything, in return.. you will truly get PWNED.

i think it's a good idea to start off with a nulled version of vb, then as you move on.. put up donations and such.. use that money to buy the license! that easy..

Yeah, offshore hosting is good, but its even better when you know the hosting personal.

I run a fringe based forum I've been shut down numerous times but my hosting provider always backs up all the information before he "deletes" the account. In other terms, when I get back online I get an email from my boy about whats going on blah blah blah and he puts everything back online so I can temporarily email everyone and tell them were down for server cleaning and shit like that. Happens every 6-8 months but its they are just an itch that keeps coming back.

I get reported because other forums that are related in discussion as mine get jealous and report me but I see it as an hysterical matter.

Regarding CgAcE and bluescorpion thoughts...Is Canada hosted website considered Off-Shore with US based domain name?
Example: GoDaddy Registrar domain which is hosted on Canadian server.
