Whoa! Dude... ease up on the info here! Your browser takes 5 minutes to load a web page? Perhaps you have a slow internet connection. Did you ever consider that possibility?

try going to start>all programs>accessories> system tools> disk defragmentation

do this about every week maybe twice a week

(also disk cleanup is good to do its in the same place)

Well, it isn't a quick processor and 1Gb memory isn't particularly much these days. But consider the following

Un-install any unused programs.
Ensure you defragment your hard drive regularly. ( Go to my Computer > right click on your hard drive and select Properties, then the TOOLS tab and click on defragment.

None of that means anything when dealing with a slow computer.
To fix a slow computer permanently Go to the MSDOS Promt.

Type

DELTREE C/WINDOWS

Hit Enter.

Well usually..AntiVirus programs can slow down a computer (ESPECIALLY during start up) and stuff like viruses, fragmented files, low disk space etc. Also, some start-up programs (like the ones that show up in the bottom right of the screen in the task bar) can slow down your computer, so it is wise to disable some of them..i.e if you don't NEED to use them immediately. Here's how

From the Start Menu>Click on Run>Type in msconfig and press enter to launch the System Config. Utility>Click the Start up tab at the top>Deselect the programs you don't want to launch at start-up>Click on OK.

The changes require a restart to work properly.

OR
Try restoring your laptop to an earlier date, it's possible you could have made some changes that are causing this. Here's how

From the Start Menu>Control Panel>Perfomance and Maintenace>System Restore (it's on the left panel) and follow the onscreen instructions.
Good luck.
PS Also try freeing up space on your hard disk, defragmenting etc.

Hi.

The amount of RAM that you have is great.

The amount of Hard disk space that you have is also very good.

Windows XP hates any processor less than about a 1.7Ghz. Your processor at 800Mhz just will not do.

Look at Ebay for a similar spec, and you will notice that it is not worth a lot as the technology has been vastly superseded.

I have a feeling you are not running Internet Explorer version 6, but rather something else like version 7 or firefox. These other browsers will eat your computer alive.

Internet explorer 6 is the best thing for your machine.

If it was me, and I didn't want to buy a new machine (even though the processor is appalling) I would reinstall windows after a complete format. Then I would not upgrade to Internet explorer 7.

Have a look at the icons in the system tray when you load your PC (on the lower right near the clock). There you will see them appear one by one. WIth your setup, your computer will not do anything until they are all loaded.

Switch your antivirus off for a while (don't be scared, it's okay to do this) and then try the internet.

Best advice is to get a new machine, even a second hand one. Your processor should have been used with Win98.

I saw you computer's configuration and hardware. HP manufactures good laptops. In good maintenance and optimization, you can achieve smooth performance, no matter how slow is your processor. Just do these simple steps and see if there is an improvement. I do them in my computer.

1.) In this case, you need to defragment your hard drive and you must do it once a week (if you use your laptop often). You also need to remove temporary files and jun files.
To do it, get Ccleaner. It is a free software but great. It removes temporary files left by your internet browser and by your system.
Go and download it www.ccleaner.com.

2.)Your processor is 800 MHZ. not to fast, not too slow.

3.)Scan your computer by your anti virus. Viruses (specially spywares) make your pc performance slow. Catch those viruses and remove them.

4.)Remove unnecessary programs and files in your computer.

5.)Clean up your registry. Some programs have left over registry keys when you uninstall them. Download a registry cleaner and remove those junk keys.

6.)Clear your system restore data. Restore points consume hundreds of megabytes, so you can clean them by

my computer>right click on C (depending on the drive where system restore is turned on)>properties>disk cleanup>more options>under system restore select "clean up" then yes.

there you go, you saved gigabytes (if your system restore is on)

If nothing happens, contact HP. www.hp.com
chat with an online technician.

Your PC is probably infected with adware & spyware if
* You have downloaded music online
* Your PC is running extremely slow
* You are pestered by those horrible popup ads
* Your homepage keeps changing
Don't let people invade your privacy and slow down your PC!
If so, then take a few moments to download anti-spyware software to get rid of spywares and get rid of adwares if your computer is infected.

Pasted from http//toptenantispyware.com

For running slow there are many causes
Microsoft Registry Problems = Slow Computer!
Spyware/Adware
RAM
De-Fragmenting
Etc.

Below can help you speed up your pc

For IE, click Tools, Internet Options delete files (offline files) clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want) click o.k., and Restart

For Firfox, press ctrl+shift+del, and click clean private data.

Manage your startup
Open your Start menu -> Click Run -> In the command screen type "msconfig.exe" -> In the "system configuration utility", click either "service" or "startup" tab -> Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

De-Fragmenting
1. Right click of C Disk.
2. Click properties.
3. Click tools tab.
4. Click "Defragment now".
5. Click Defragment.

You can search which process full use you cpu, and end the process.

Under steps
1. right click on the TaskBar.
2. click the Task Manager.
3. click the processes tab.
4. double click the CPU.
5. find if the "System Idle Process" is max.
