Instead of Twilight competing with Potter, why doesn't it compete with Inheritance?

People are constantly going around saying that the Twilight series is Harry Potter's "rival", but if anything I think it should be the Inheritance series' rival.

First of all, the fandoms of both series claim that they are "the next Harry Potter".

Secondly, the sales between them are closer. Harry Potter has sold around 488 million books worldwide (with seven installments), Inheritance around 12.5 million (with two installments), and Twilight around 10 million (with four installments).

Thirdly, both Twilight and Inheritance are set to end at four books.

Fourthly, both Meyer and Paolini are undeniable hacks.

I mean if people are going to claim that Twilight has a rival, why don't they give it a proper one? Granted, Twilight and Inheritance have nothing in common when it comes to actual *content*, but then again, neither do Twlight and Harry Potter.
Inheritance is also known as Eragon, which had a movie released in 2006 and made around 75 million dollars.
Hmm... maybe it's because Twilight and Harry Potter both sucked. Need I go further?

I never heard of, or read, Inheritance, so my opinion on that book is at nothing right now.

[edit]

Oh. Ok, I hated Eragon but not as much as I hated Harry Potter. It wasn't bad writing, it just didn't appeal to me. I hate books that center around dragons - a personal preference.

Inheritance Cycle (Eragon) gets compared to Lord of the Rings most of the time (actually I've heard it called an "LotR" rip off though I tend not to agree).

The writing style and feel of Inheritance is closer to LotR. Also there is more of a "pop" quality to Twilight and HP that can appeal to reluctant readers. Inheritance and LotR have a wordiness and complexity that appeals more to avid reads (generally speaking).

Cause no one knows what Inheritance is? I know i've never heard it.. and i have idea what its about.. Twilight is going to be brought into a film, playing in November.. and harry potter was brought into a film.. so they are more similar there

I haven't read inheritance, but I am a fan of both HP and twilight. I think the only reason they get compared is because of the hype and the craze surrounding them. Otherwise they have nothing else in common

Are you all telling me you haven't heard of ERAGON? Wow....

Anyway, I don't like to compare any books, though, if you are going to compare any, I agree that Twilight vs. Inheritance makes more sense that Twilight vs. HP.

In response to another poster, the Inheritance books have already been made into movies... or the first book anyway. Eragon, remember?

But in answer to the question, it probably is because Twilight and HP have very rabid fandoms and Inheritance fans just aren't that intense, probably because Inheritance is second on their list to HP or Twilight. ;)

I agree that Twilight and Inheritance are better 'rivals'.

yay you read my mind baby!

inheritance is nothing but a rip-off of lord of the rings and star wars.

both are grossly overrated, with awfully characterized people, and rather cliche plots.

It's completely idiotic to compare HP to Twilight. They can't even *compete*. Like you said. HP has sold over 400 million copies. Twilight? Only a few million. And Twilight is the "next Harry Potter"? Psh. Do the math, people. HP pwns Twilight.

I agree that Eragon vs Twilight makes more sense than Twilight vs Harry Potter.

I think that HP and Inheritance should be compared to one another, and Twilight should be kind of on its own. HP and Inheritance are both from a young man's point of view, and they are much more about action and events than they are about emotion and introspection. Of course Twilight has its share of action, but it's not the crux of the story.

HP is also appropriate for a younger age set, at least the first few installments....

Of course all 3 series are wonderful and entirely deserving of their respective followings!

First off... how have people never heard of the inheritance cycle?

second...i think they compare them because they kind of came out of no where...one second they were nothing the next everyone had a copy while Inheritance slowly grew in popularity. I know that for awhile i only knew of three people that read Eragon, but all of my friends have well-beaten copies of Twilight. In my immense diversity of book choices I have read all of them and rate them at the top of my reading list, and i could probably pull one off of my shelf blind-folded.

lol I came to say that the only thing Twilight and Inheritance have in common is that they are both over-hyped books that managed to accomplish the rare feat of decreasing the value of the paper they are printed on... but you and others already said as much, so bravo!

I don't really like Eragon so I'm a tad biased.
Anyways, I liked Twilight before people got so obsessed with it too.
Harry Potter will always be my one true love ;D lmao
Back to the point though, I don't think Harry Potter will be beat...ever. It was insane how much that sold. Eragon was close, but it was like still 75 million (I think) behind.

Eragon (Inheritance book series) focuses on dragons, elves, Urgals, Riders, Galbatorix, etc.
Twilight was on vampires and H.P. (Harry Potter) was on sorcery magics.
Eragon could compete with Tolkien's stories if Tolkien's books would be just released this days. Twilight and H.P. were known as rivals in their "dark" plots and are in series.
